Catlean Client Review And Download

As many in the Minecraft modding community already know, ThunderHack was one of my personal favorite free hacked clients for modern Minecraft versions. It offered some impressive features and some really cool render-related hacks that set it apart from others.

So, when the news broke that ThunderHack was being discontinued, I was both surprised and disappointed. However, just a few days later, a message appeared announcing the upcoming release of a new, closed-source client—Catlean. This immediately sparked curiosity, and now, in the present day, Catlean has just been publicly released for beta testing!

I’m genuinely excited about Catlean’s release. More options mean more competition among client developers, which drives innovation and ultimately leads to better clients with improved modules. However, I have to be honest—something about Catlean being both free and closed-source doesn’t sit quite right with me.

What Is the Client?

To gain more insight, I reached out to the main ThunderHack developer with a few questions. Here’s a summary of what he told me:

“ThunderHack was closed for several reasons. I wanted to study Kotlin, and some of ThunderHack’s bases and modules were easier to rewrite than to refactor. Additionally, people were taking ThunderHack’s code, obfuscating it, and charging users for my own work, which was frustrating.”

While I completely understand these frustrations, I also think this situation should be taken as a compliment rather than an insult. Many other free clients have had their features and modules taken, yet they remain open-source and free. It might sound strange, but the large community and collection of free and open-source clients are what make the Minecraft hacked client scene so unique and enjoyable to me.

That being said, I do understand the reasoning behind the move to a closed-source base. It’s also worth noting that when the GUI is open, there is small text labeling the version as “free,” which could imply a potential paid version in the future. While this hasn’t been confirmed, if a paid version were to be released, the decision to go closed-source would make more sense.

I also asked the developer how he would respond to those calling the client unsafe. His reply was:

“This is a normal reaction to a new free client, especially one with closed-source code. People can run the client in a virtual machine, examine the connections with specialized programs, deobfuscate and study the code, or just trust me since I’ve been writing free clients for two years.”

For full transparency, I am personally running Catlean in a virtual machine. ThunderHack was one of the few clients I trusted enough to run on my personal machine, and while I do trust the developers behind ThunderHack and Catlean, I prefer not to run unknown software directly on my system.

If Catlean were open-source, I wouldn’t hesitate to run it on my personal computer. To be clear, I don’t believe this client is unsafe—I just have my own standards when it comes to security.

Regardless of these concerns, it’s exciting to see new developments in the Minecraft hacked client space. Whether Catlean remains free or transitions to a paid model, it will be interesting to watch how it evolves.

Key Features of CatLean

Catlean includes some standout modules like Player ESP with customizable shaders, Pearl Predict for visualizing ender pearl paths, and Auto Crystal, which has been improved over ThunderHack with better placement speed and more settings. The GUI is sleek but less customizable than its predecessor, making navigation slightly cumbersome. It lacks Baritone integration but still offers essential utilities like scaffold, anti-knockback, and x-ray.

Overall, Catlean is a feature-rich and functional client for how new it is. While there’s controversy over its closed-source nature, I haven’t seen any solid proof of security risks. I’ll continue using it for casual play but won’t run it on my main system or on servers like 2b2t, where I care about my bases, stashes and coordinates. If it were open-source, it could easily become one of my go-to clients. If you try it out, let me know what you think!
